2011 Smoky Mountain Championship Rules and Information
The match is full. On the Day of the match, we will create a Stand-By list for any no-shows. On a first come basis, no-show slots will be filled with Stand-By shooters at 9:15 for the morning session, and 1:45 for the afternoon session.
Date: 21 May 2011
Morning Session: 7:30 – Pick up Shooters Packets 8:30 – Shooters Meeting 9:00 – Begin Morning Session
Afternoon Session: 12:30 - Pick up Shooters Packets 1:00 – Shooters Meeting 1:30 – Begin Afternoon Session
Side Match: Opens for competition immediately upon the beginning of the Afternoon Session.
Closes 10 minutes after the posting of the Tentative Final Scores
Prize Ceremony: 30 minutes after the Tentative Final Scores are posted, presuming there are no disputes. Estimated Time: 7 PM
Rules of Competition:
Equipment: 1. CaracalUSA will provide all ammunition and firearms to be used in the competition. 2. Competitors will NOT need holsters or magazine pouches.
Steel Challenge: 1. USPSA Steel Challenge rules will govern the steel challenge portion of the competition with the following exceptions: a) Each competitor will shoot four strings on each stage. The slowest time for each stage will be dropped and the competitor’s score for that stage will be the total of the three fastest times. b) If there is a firearm or ammunition malfunction, the competitor will be permitted to reshoot that string.
USPSA Style Field Course Stages 1. USPSA Rules will govern the field course portion of the competition with the following exceptions: a) IDPA targets will be used and IDPA scoring will be used to compute the competitor’s score for that stage. IPDA penalties for “Failure to Neutralize” and “Failure to do Right” will be assessed as appropriate. b) USPSA overlays may be used at the Range Officer’s discretion. c) If there is a range, firearm or ammunition malfunction, the competitor will be permitted to reshoot the stage.
The competitor’s final score will the sum of the three Steel Challenge stages and the two USPSA Style Field Course Stages.
The Match Director is the final arbitrator in the settlement of any disputes.
Interim Scores may be posted as the competition proceeds. Tentative Final Scores will be posted as soon as possible after the competition is completed. Any changes or disputes must be brought to the attention of the Match Director within 30 minutes after posting the Tentative Final Scores. If there are no disputes/changes within 30 minutes of posting, the scores will be deemed final and the prize ceremony will commence. Prize Distribution:
The Prizes will be distributed at follows:
1st Tier 1) $1000.00 / Pistol 2) $750.00 / Pistol 3) $500.00 / Pistol 4) Pistol
2nd Tier 1) $750.00 / Pistol 2) $500.00 3) $250.00
3rd Tier 1) $500.00 / Pistol 2) $250.00 3) $125.00
Gun winners will not be eligible for guns to be awarded by random drawing.
The following algorithm will be used to first place for 2nd and 3rd Tiers:
Where N is an integer,
a) if the number of shooters, S, equals 3N 2nd Tier First Place Equals shooter N+1 3rd Tier First Place Equals shooter 2N+1
b) if the number of shooters, S, equals 3N+1 2nd Tier First Place Equals shooter N+1 3rd Tier First Place Equals shooter 2N+1
c) if the number of shooters, S, equals 3N+2 2nd Tier First Place Equals shooter N+1 3rd Tier First Place Equals shooter 2N+2

The match IS getting close. We have the 35,000 rounds of 9mm on hand. The guns are ready. The weather is going to be great. Lunch will be available for $5 - money will go the Young Marines Steel Challenge ammo fund. Come on by and shoot some of the demo guns, even if you are not registered for the match.

Great match! Thanks to all the RO's who did an excellent job. I was very impressed with how well the pistols preformed. That was a lot of rounds being put through them in a short period of time by a lot of different hands.
